How many supervised hours do I need before taking the CADC exam?

Requirements vary by state and credential level, but most CADC-I programs require: 270–315 hours of approved alcohol and drug counseling education; and 2,000–4,000 hours of supervised counseling experience (some states allow 1,000 hours with a master's degree). CADC-II typically requires 6,000 supervised hours. Hours must be accrued while working under an approved supervisor at a licensed treatment facility. Many states allow interns working toward licensure to count hours during their degree programs. Check your state's certification board website or IC&RC affiliate for the exact requirements in your jurisdiction.
